Dissimilarity-based representation for radiomics applications

چکیده
Radiomics is a term which refers to the analysis of the large amount of quantitative tumor features extracted from medical images to find useful predictive, diagnostic or prognostic information. Many recent studies have proved that radiomics can offer a lot of useful information that physicians cannot extract from the medical images and can be associated with other information like gene or protein data. However, most of the classification studies in radiomics report the use of feature selection methods without identifying the machine learning challenges behind radiomics. In this paper, we first show that the radiomics problem should be viewed as an high dimensional, low sample size, multi view learning problem, then we compare different solutions proposed in multi view learning for classifying radiomics data. Our experiments, conducted on several real world multi view datasets, show that the intermediate integration methods work significantly better than filter and embedded feature selection methods commonly used in radiomics.

Exploiting Dissimilarity Representations for Person Re-identification
Person re-identification is the task of recognizing an individual that has already been observed over a network of video-surveillance cameras. Methods proposed in literature so far addressed this issue as a classical matching problem: a descriptor is built directly from the view of the person, and a similarity measure between descriptors is defined accordingly. In this work, we propose a genera...
متن کاملNon-Euclidean Dissimilarities: Causes and Informativeness
In the process of designing pattern recognition systems one may choose a representation based on pairwise dissimilarities between objects. This is especially appealing when a set of discriminative features is difficult to find. Various classification systems have been studied for such a dissimilarity representation: the direct use of the nearest neighbor rule, the postulation of a dissimilarity...
متن کاملThe Dissimilarity Representation for Structural Pattern Recognition
The patterns in collections of real world objects are often not based on a limited set of isolated properties such as features. Instead, the totality of their appearance constitutes the basis of the human recognition of patterns. Structural pattern recognition aims to find explicit procedures that mimic the learning and classification made by human experts in well-defined and restricted areas o...
متن کاملFast person re-identification based on dissimilarity representations
Person re-identification is a recently introduced computer vision task that consists of recognising an individual who was previously observed over a video-surveillance camera network. Among the open problems, in this paper we focus on computational complexity. Despite its practical relevance, especially in real-time applications, this issue has been overlooked in the literature so far. In this ...
متن کاملDermal Radiomics: a new approach for computer-aided melanoma screening system
Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in North America, and melanoma is the most dangerous type of skin cancer. Melanoma originates from melanocytes in the epidermis and has a high tendency to develop away from the skin surface and cause metastasis through the bloodstream. Early diagnosis is known to help improve survival rates. Under the current diagnosis, the initial examination of th...
